1957 Series I 88" SWB - Unrestored Low Miles Example
Museum or collection-ready unrestored 1957 Land Rover Series I Diesel.
One of the more special configurations of the Series I, this first year 88" Diesel has been dry stored for the majority of it's 64 years. Production documents from Solihull confirm the origins of this late model Series I. With less than 20K miles (30K KM) on the odometer and a patina to match this may be one of the finest unrestored examples of a first-year Diesel Land Rover Series I.
Patina shows an early working life, and little to no use during indoor storage in the last 40+ years. The paint is original as are the elephant-hide seats, and rubber bodywork seals. (though the rubber seals have hardened) The hoop set, canvas, doors, engine, paint, and body work are in excellent condition for a 60 year old truck. Brake cylinders and fuel lines have been flushed and new brake seals & springs fitted using Genuine NOS Land Rover parts. The Series I was stretched in 1957 to 88" to accommodate the Diesel engine.
Two modern 12v batteries have been installed for convenience (originally the vehicle would have been outfitted with two 6V batteries in series to make 12v) and it has kept the original positive ground configuration.
A special order set of Reproduction Elephant Hide Exmoor seats have been installed (the original seats are included in the sale as well)
