REPLACEMENT TIPS AND RE-TIP SERVICES are available as an alternative to full replacement. Clean and replace tip service requires a serviceable injector without damage. Owner supplied injectors are submerged into a heated ultrasonic tank for initial cleaning, disassembled for inspection, injector bodies and components are cleaned with a second trip through the ultrasonic cleaner, new tips are assembled onto the injector bodies and wrapped for pickup or shipping.
Injectors with worn tips result in inconsistent and "wet" spray into your combustion chamber instead of a nice cloud of aerated diesel. The result of the poor spray is less efficient combustion, reduced power, increased fuel consumption, and additional soot through the exhaust system. The fine holes in the tip of an injector acts like a shower-head turning a wet-flow into a cloud-mist. The high pressures eventually widen the perforations in the injector tips turning sprayer into faucet. Dirty and insufficiently lubricated fuel can wear open the injector nozzles more rapidly, but over time even good fuel will eventually open up the jets. Most good quality TDI injectors can benefit from one tip-replacement during their lifespan, with complete injector replacement recommended after high mileage use has worn out the springs and fuel passage tolerances.
